Frequently asked questions

Why is this program available to seniors only?

This program invites senior citizens, many who are susceptible to the COVID-19 virus and likely isolated during the pandemic, to experience the Belle Isle Aquarium.

The goal is to encourage them to stay active and healthy, and enjoy an outing that follows safety guidelines.

What guidelines will be in place during this event?

A maximum of 25 guests will be allowed in the facility at one time. Masks that cover the nose and mouth are required, and guests must maintain a distance of six feet apart during their visit. Hand sanitizers will also be available upon entry and exit.

What age qualifies as a senior for this program?

All participants must be 55 or over as of September 1, 2020.

Can I bring my children or grandchildren?

No. Visitors under the age of 55 won’t be permitted in the building.

How do I register?

Register at belleisleconservancy.org or call 313-331-7760.

Will you take walk-ins?

No. Guests must register online, which includes agreeing to a waiver and indicating their birthdate.

Will I have to show identification on site? What if I don’t have a government issued ID?

Participants will check in by name. To minimize touch transactions, IDs will not be required unless participants look younger than 40 years old.

Is the Belle Isle Conservancy open to the public?

Not yet. It’s the intention of the Belle Isle Conservancy to gradually reopen the Belle Isle Aquarium to the public in compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and state of Michigan executive orders and directives.
