Public Volunteer Clean-Ups on Belle Isle

What: International Coastal Cleanup Day (ICCD), taking place on Saturday September 21st, 2019, is one of the world’s largest annual preservation and protection events and volunteer efforts for our waterways and beaches. ICCD is a global movement that encompasses 6 million volunteers in 90 countries and across the United States and we are participating on Belle Isle!

Who: We are in critical need of volunteers who can either bring their own kayak and help us remove trash that has made its way into the various lakes and lagoons on Belle Isle - or - bring their own bucket to remove landlocked litter throughout the park, preventing it from making its way into our watershed.

This is a family friendly event, welcoming volunteers of all ages! No RSVP needed. Please dress for the weather predicted that day and bring your own work gloves and reusable water bottle. You can also BYOBucket to help reduce the amount of plastic trash bags we use!

Why: Through our anti-litter campaign, Keep Belle Isle Beautiful, our goal is to make great impact at both the local level, by reducing litter on Belle Isle, as well as the regional level, by being an active contributor to the umbrella, global campaign to keep our waters free of plastic pollution.

Where: Flynn Pavilion (See map below for directions).

When: September 21st, 2019 @ 9:30am

Helpful Tips: Interested volunteers should dress for the weather predictions that day, wear shoes that can get wet (water shoes or flip flops) and bring water to stay hydrated.
