About the Event

Each fall, volunteer groups from Farm & Garden branches, schools, companies, nonprofit organizations, and the MDNR come together to plant thousands of bulbs in various locations. The goal of Daffodils4Detroit is to plant 4 million daffodils, one for each resident in the Metro Detroit area. The proceeds raised from this annual luncheon fund the purchase of the bulbs.

About Daffodils4Detroit

In 2010, founded by Claudia Scioly and in collaboration with Cecily O’Connor, the first Annual Daffodil Day Luncheon was held on Belle Isle to celebrate the planting of 3,000 daffodils on the island. The effort became an official Michigan Division project in 2012. In 2017, the city of Detroit proclaimed the third Wednesday of April to be official Detroit Daffodil Day and the Belle Isle Daffodil Project received a "Spirit of Detroit Award" from the city. By 2018, they met their goal to plant one daffodil for every resident of the city – 650,000!

After successfully meeting their first goal, they decided to expand their project to Daffodils4Detroit and create a new goal, which is to plant four million daffodils; one for each resident in the Metro Detroit area. It has become a true community effort, garnering strong support from a variety of sources including the Belle Isle Conservancy, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, local businesses, school groups, and others.
