General FAQ

Q: How can I make arrangements or rentals of Shelters, building or spaces on Belle Isle?

A:  Please contact the Belle Isle Administration Office at 313-628-2081.  All questions, arrangements and rentals regarding Shelters, buildings, spaces and events on Belle Isle are handled entirely by the Belle Isle Administration Office.   Unfortunately, The Belle Isle Conservancy is not able to handle these requests as our office staff does not have access to information regarding rentals, fees, dates or locations.

Q: I am interested in having a function, wedding, reunion, group picnic, sporting event, charity event, photo shoot, filming a movie, walk-a-thon, music event at the Remick Music Shell, rental of the handball courts, use of the Athletic Field or any type of gathering on Belle Isle?

A: Please contact the Belle Isle Administration Office at 313-628-2081. All types of events taking place on Belle Isle MUST BE SCHEDULED through the Belle Isle Administration Office. The Belle Isle Administration Staff are the only people who can handle this type of information.

Q: How can I tour the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory?

A: The Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Please call 313-331-7760 to make arrangements.

Q: How can I tour the Belle Isle Nature Zoo?

A: The Belle Isle Nature Zoo is open Wednesday through Sunday 10am to 5pm.  For information or a professionally guided tour call 313-852-4056 ext. 3023 or email BINZ@detroitzoo.org

Q: I will be visiting Detroit and would like directions to get to the island.
Q: Is there bus transportation available to Belle Isle?

A:  Buses are available along Jefferson Avenue. There are no buses that enter the park. You will have to walk across the McArthur Bridge and to your destination on the island.

Q: Is there any place to purchase food or beverages on the island?

A:   At this time, there are no concession stands, stores or restaurants within the park.  

Q: I'd like to make a donation to a specific project on Belle Isle, is that possible?

A: Yes, the Belle Isle Conservancy honors all requests to support specific projects. Please click here for information on Donations.

Q: Can you fish on Belle Isle? Where?

A: Fishing is permitted from the shores and piers along the Detroit River and in the lagoons and canals on the island, with the exception of the Blue Heron Lagoon. 

The two fishing piers are located:

  • South side of the island west of the US Coast Guard Station 
  • North side of the island east of the Boat Club. 

The two fishing bulkheads are located: 

  • Across east of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum
  • East of the Detroit Yacht Club
